Venice to Dubrovnik Cycling Trip

We have a fabulous cycling trip from Venice to Dubrovnik planned.

4 Countries, the sparkling Adriatic, Dalmatian Coast, cheap drinks… This tour is a must if you want to cycle somewhere out of the ordinary.

Our trip will start just outside of Venice (you cannot cycle on the island) and finishes in the beautiful old walled town of Dubrovnik in Croatia.

The trip will run for 7 days (Saturday to the following Friday) plus a day allowed each end for travel. (So travel to Venice on Friday and travel home the following Saturday).

We will stay in decent quality hotels en route and all of them are in coastal resorts so you will get a chance to relax on the beach after riding.

We will cycle an average of about 110km each day, although a couple of days are longer and a couple less than 100km. The route follows the coast for the majority of the route and tends to be up and down but not mountainous. 1200m of climbing each day is the average apart from the first day which is virtually pan flat as we leave Venice and cross the head of the Adriatic Sea.

We have carefully chosen some beautiful towns and villages to stay so it won’t be all about the bike! You will have the opportunity each day to explore the local area and see the sights as well as sample the local delicacies.

This trip is designed for people who love riding and want to ride somewhere different. We will ride in Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The ride will be excellent for those of you who want to enjoy the scenery and aren’t interested in racing to finish each day as quickly as possible. That’s not to say we don’t welcome riders who ride at a decent pace, but we are keen to welcome riders who would like to ride at a more leisurely pace too.

Trip Dates: 5 – 13 September 2026

Shared Room: £1895.00 per person / Single Room: £2145.00 per person

Costs include, transport from Venice Airport on arrival and to either Dubrovnik or Split Airport at the end of the holiday, hotel accommodation, breakfast, dinner with wine and souvenir riding jersey. The ride will be fully supported with on road guides and vehicle support.

Please note that minor repairs can be undertaken but major problems may need attention from a bike shop. We will carry spares (tubes, chain links, tyres etc.) but we advise you to bring anything you think you may need in case it is not available locally.

Flight costs are not included in the cost of the trip.

Arrival day

Arrive in Venice and be transported to our hotel in Lido di Jesolo on the coast a short drive from Venice.

You will be able to unpack your bike and set it up ready for the first day’s riding tomorrow.

Evening meal will be in a local restaurant, where we will give our pre ride briefing and answer any questions.

Day 1

Day 1 Lido di Jesolo to Monfalcone

We start our ride from the coastal town of Lido di Jesolo, just outside of Venice. We are unable to start from Venice itself as cycling is not allowed on the island.

Our first day’s riding will take us across the plains of north east Italy, around the head of the Adriatic Sea. The riding is very flat with just over 300m of ascent across the whole day.

Our destination is Monfalcone close to the Slovenian border. We will stay in this coastal town overnight.

Day 2

Day 2 Monfalcone to Rijeka

Today we will ride in three countries: Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.

First, we will cling to the coast and ride to Trieste, the last large Italian town before we cross the border.

Once we leave Trieste, our route takes us inland, through Slovenia, cutting across the Istrian Peninsula before crossing the Croatian border and heading back downhill all the way to the coast.

Our destination for the night is Rijeka. We will stay in a good hotel close to the beach and to the town centre giving you a chance to either relax in the sun or see what the town has to offer.

Day 3

Day 3 Rijeka to Novalja

Today we ride along the coast of Croatia. Beautifully smooth roads next to the sparkling Adriatic with islands lurking just offshore.

We quickly leave Rijeka and take the coast road south. It weaves it’s way alongside the bays and beaches for about 100km until we reach Prizna. We then drop down from the main coast road to the harbour where we will catch a ferry to the island of Pag.

It’s a long, narrow island and we just need to ride 10km across to the other side to reach our hotel in Novalja which is a small village nestled in a bay on the western side of the island. For those who like romantic settings it’s perfect place to watch the sunset over the sea with a glass of wine!

Day 4

Day 4 Novalja to Vodice

Today will be our longest day in the saddle but there won’t be as much climbing as yesterday which should be a relief.

We start by cycling the length of Pag. This will be an unusual experience because of the tiny amount of vegetation on the island. A rocky desert is probably how best to describe it.

45km south we cross a bridge back to the mainland and then turn right to head towards the town of Zadar where we will stop for lunch.

The road then sticks next to the sea all the way down to our overnight stop in Vodice. Vodice is a pretty harbour town with plenty of bars and restaurants and a pleasant beach. As with every other place we stay on this trip you will have plenty of options to leave the hotel and explore when we finish riding.

Day 5

Day 5 Vodice to Omis

We leave Vodice behind and continue heading south today.

As we need to bypass the fairly busy city of Split our route will take us inland, away from the coast so that we can miss the majority of the traffic which will inevitably be present if we were to go close to Split.

After bypassing the city, the route drops back down to the coast again and continues right next to the sea for the next 20km until we reach our destination for the night in Omis.

Omis is a small seaside town surrounded by cliffs. It has a good vibrant feel to it and is one of the few places along the coast with a sandy beach.

Day 6

Day 6 Omis to Klek

Islands are the name of the game today as our route passes Brac, Hvar and Kortula, three of the best known tourist destinations in Croatia.

We hug the coast, heading south all the way until we reach Klek, our destination for the night.

Klek really is a lovely village. It is nestled in a pretty inlet with a lovely harbour and beach. The bars and restaurants overlooking the water are friendly and inexpensive. It’s a great place to spend an evening.

Day 7

Day 7 Klek to Dubrovnik

Almost as soon as we leave Klek today, we cross into another country. Bosnia-Herzegovina has a small stretch of coastline which we will cross.

The main seaside resort of Bosnia is Neum. It’s quite swish with smart hotels and shops that wouldn’t look out of place in the South of France. Unfortunately we won’t be lingering though because 15km after entering Bosnia we get to the other side of the country and re-enter Croatia.

After riding back into Croatia, we again follow the coast road all the way to our final destination in Dubrovnik.

The entrance to Dubrovnik is quite spectacular with the natural harbour alive with ferries and cruise ships. We will not cross the busy road bridge to access the town but instead ride up the side of one arm of the harbour and then cross and ride back to town.

Our hotel is close to the old walled city, recently made famous after being used extensively in Game of Thrones as a location.

On our last evening we will enjoy a great dinner, plenty of wine and some prize giving based on our observations during the week. It’s light hearted and good fun.

Departure

Your fabulous trip along the Adriatic comes to an end today. We’re sure you will take wonderful memories home with you.

Depending on where you will be flying from, we will take you either to Dubrovnik Airport which is about 10km south of the city or to Split airport.

Please bear in mind that Split Airport is 230km from Dubrovnik and will take approx. 3 hours to drive. We can only get you there in time for an afternoon or evening flight.

Refreshments

The support vehicles will always make itself available to provide you with your refreshments. If you need a water refill on a climb, we will stop in a convenient place to help you out.

Evening Meals

We provide all of the evening meals either at the hotel or at carefully selected restaurants . Our tours aren’t just about great cycling they’re also about great food.

Airport Transfers

We will pick you up and drop you off at the required airports.

Bike Storage
We understand how much you love your bike and we will do everything we can to help keep them safe. Each hotel we stay at has good quality bike storage and we supply additional chains and padlocks to ensure excellent security.

GPS Routes

As well as having a support rider and support van in close proximity we will also provide you with the routes so you can load them onto you navigation device. If you don’t have a navigation device we can rent you one locally.

Tools

We carry a comprehensive tool kit in the back of the support vehicle along with a number of basic replacement parts. Each member of our team is capable of helping with bike maintenance and basic repairs. We do advise however that you know how to disassemble and assemble your own bike and have the tools to do so. Please bring spare inner tubes and a puncture repair kit.

What’s Needed:

Fitness

Riding for 7 consecutive days is quite tough and we create our tours to ensure maximum levels of achievement which comes hand in hand with some physical exertion. For this reason we recommend a decent level of fitness and motivation. We will happily create routes for any level of fitness and experience so if you have any concerns please feel free to contact us, together we can come up with the best possible options to suit your needs.

Bike

For these tours we suggest that you bring your own bike. While we can advise you on hiring a bike, it is generally better that you have your own. You need to be comfortable on your bike for long periods of time.

Helmet

We expect you to wear a helmet at all times while riding.

Clothing

Please bring appropriate clothing. The climbs can be hot but the long, fast descents can get cold especially if you are damp from the hard climb. Extra layers can be kept in the support vehicle so that you don’t have to carry them but please ensure that you bring good quality kit.

It is also advisable to bring good sun protection.
