Portugal Mountains Cycling Trip
Trip Dates: 14 June – 21 June 2023
Cost: £1495.00 in a shared room. (Please enquire for single room supplements)
We have a fantastic trip planned in 2023 to Portugal. The country is something of a hidden gem when it comes to cycling. Warm weather, very quiet roads that are in good condition and spectacular scenery.
Our trip in 2023 takes in 3 of the best areas in Portugal to cycle: Lousa, in the middle of the country, Serra da Estrela, home to Portugal’s highest mountain at 2000m and the incomparable Douro Valley where we will not only encounter spectacular riding but spectacular wine and port tasting too!
We will stay in excellent hotels each night, all with secure storage for your bike.
Breakfast and dinner is included in the cost of the trip but lunch will need to be purchased en route. Thankfully, this is Portugal, not France and a 3 course lunch with wine can be as little as 10€.
We offer full support for the ride with an on road guide (or more if there are larger numbers of riders) plus van support.
We will collect you and your bike from Porto Airport and drive to our first hotel stop in Lousa, about 1.5 hours away. Dinner will be served in the hotel restaurant (depending on arrival time).
Our first day on the road takes in a great loop in the mountains surrounding Lousa. The 100km route is on quiet roads with fantastic scenery to feast your eyes upon. We’ll finish up back at the hotel in Lousa and stay for a second night.
On the second day of riding we will leave Lousa and head north east to Seia, which sits at the foot of Serra da Estrela and will be our base for two nights.
Our ride in Serra da Estrela will take us to the highest point in Portugal at Torre, which sits at 2000m but in addition to that, you will be treated to some amazing riding including one fabulous descent through the forest that goes on for 20km!
Day 4 takes us north on a lovely route to the Douro Valley and the town of Peso da Regua, where we will stay for the next 2 nights.
We have two rides planned in the Douro Valley and fabulous doesn’t do either of them justice. Our first ride takes us along the Douro river before climbing up the northern side, eventually arriving in Pinhao for lunch. It’s an easy ride from Pinhao back to Peso da Regua alongside the river so you can save your legs for the final day of riding up the south side of the river where we will tackle the infamous “Wall of Cardao” among many other delightful climbs.
We will drop you back to Porto in time for your flights the next day.
See below for details of the ride.
