Charity

As always, the Black Rat donates profit from the event to a charity that we believe in.

This year we will be supporting the Fabio Casartelli Foundation.

As some of you may remember, Fabio Casartelli was killed when riding the Tour de France in 1996, whilst descending the Col de Portet d’Aspet in the Pyrenees.

A foundation was set up in the French town of St Girons, close to the site of his accident and this foundation provides financial relief to cyclists – both professional and amateur – that have been severely injured in accidents.

As keen cyclists, we have ridden a great deal in the Pyrenees and got to know the founders when were there. We were impressed with their dedication and commitment and decided that we would give them our support.

New for the 2024 edition of the Black Rat: We will also be supporting Penguins Against Cancer this year.

in addition to a financial donation, we will be providing back up support on their charity bike ride from Guys Hospital in London to Blackpool Tower from 3rd – 5th May this year.
